"La dieta" como camino para asegurar un hijo sano: Una mirada desde el mundo urbano de las adolescentes

Objectives: The purpose of the study was to understand the meaning of the care provided by adolescent mothers give to their babies during the postpartum period. Methodology: The study was carried out in Cali, Colombia using the focalized ethnography approach. Data were collected through unstructured interviews previous informed consent from the participants. Eight adolescents with their newborns were engaged in the study. An average of four interviews was done with each adolecent according to data saturation criteria. Group interviews with lay midwives and a traditional healer were done to validate the data. Spradley's approach was used to analyze the data. Findings: Adolescent mothers perform everyday practices in order to be sure they have a healthy and strong baby. These practices are focused on keeping a clean environment, keeping hot-cold balance within the baby's body and protecting the baby from deformities. Conclusion: Nursing should take into account this knowledge when caring for the adolescent mother's health and her family in order to provide them a culturally congruent care
